Crochet ADHD Therapy

I think I've mentioned before that I have crochet ADHD. I always decide to make small projects. And if I do have to make bigger ones, I try to use the thickest yarn and any shortcut I can do to make the project faster to finish. Small projects = instant gratification, yey!

Mimi Alelis has the cure.

I met her last Saturday at Jollibee Philcoa. I bought some (read: A LOT) of crochet threads from her for some projects I had in mind. I was so honored to meet her... Being a successful Filipina crochet designer, in my eyes she was a goddess. LOL. She started showing me some of her projects. And I drooled. And envied. And lusted after the beautifully detailed designs. A sort of... Overwhelming artistic guilt (?) came over me as I stared at her works. The stitches were so perfectly executed -- even and consistent. I felt like such a poser. LOL.

I had so much fun talking with her, I didn't realize that we've been talking for hours! In the end, I made up my mind to start on one of her shrugs this very week. I bought her pattern for the Shells and Flowers Shrug:

I love the motif, and the innovative way that the whole thing is put together. I am making my project with the pink Anchor thread that I got from Ms. Mimi, too. I'm now on my third row. I hope I can do this pattern justice...

Thanks so much for everything, Ms. Mimi! Looking forward to our next meeting. :)

  2. Hi Ms. Mimi!

I originally wanted to make a whole post about you as a designer... Nahiya ako magpichur-pichur nung Saturday e, hehe. =) It was really an unforgettable experience for me. You have inspired me so much.

BTW, I've already finished my shrug, yey! I just have to get around to hiding all the ends and steam-blocking the thing. Any advice on that? =) Thanks for dropping by my cyber home!

  3. Hi Claire,
I also want to have a souvenir picture with you ;) I wish to have an album of my meetings with all my crocheting buddies...if I could just organize it :p
I just saw your finished SFShrug...sayang naman it does look a bit tight on the arms. Don't you think it could still be corrected if you sewed a lesser length at the underarm? Sana I was able to follow it up in progress...
It will make a wonderful gift for sure, or maybe you can sell it...
About finishing - I don't have any systematic procedure, as in blocking. Since cotton is very easy to work with, I just dampen and press it with my hands, then air-dry it while layed flat.

  4. Ooh what a great idea... I don't think I have the patience to redo it. I want to use my purple threads anyway :D And a bunch of my friends have already laid claim to the pink shrug! Hehe. I don't mind giving it to someone in exchange for more yarn. Yarn... <3

Ganun lang pala ung blocking. :D Yeah, cotton is relatively easier to work with. Thanks for the tips!
